Abstract
780,572. Hop picking machines. BENSEMANN, E. G., and JONES & CO (PROPRIETARY), Ltd., H. Sept. 9, 1953, No. 24890/53. Class 6(3). A hop picking machine comprises two columns of endless picking-conveyers carrying picking tines G. The columns are mounted in a frame and are separated by a space into which hop vines are passed. The conveyers comprise bands or chains carried on driving rollers or sprockets A, B. The upper reaches of the conveyers move away from the space between the columns. The frame may comprise shoots H for guiding vines into the said space, and a fixed wall of chain netting J, co-operating with the picking tines. The rollers or sprockets A may be larger or smaller in diameter than their counterparts B. The space between the columns may diverge upwardly and from back to front. The columns may be inclined as shown in Fig. 5. The machine may be mounted on a wheeled undercarriage. The picking conveyers may be driven from a motor mounted on the frame. The latter may carry hopcatching bins and cleaning and bagging apparatus.
