Abstract

<PICT:0779800/IV(a)/1> In a heat treatment of threads, i.e. threads, yarns, ribbons and like products, continuously moving threads are brought into contact with the smooth, stationary surface of a heated body around which they are guided in a helical path with an angle of inclination of at least 70 degrees. The body may be solid, e.g. an electric resistance wire (Fig. 1, not shown), or hollow to enable internal heating with a liquid or vapour. As shown in Fig. 2, parallel threads 16 spaced by combs 13, 14 are guided around a tubular body 8 (having supply and discharge pipes 9 and 10 for a heating medium) by pins 15 or helical grooves (not shown). Threads may also be guided successively around separate heated rods whereby the heat treatment may be applied in steps at different temperatures.
