Abstract
779,748. Wrapping-machines; packages. HANSEL-JUNIOR GES. SPEZIAL-MASCHINENFABRIK. July 28, 1955, No. 21894/55. Class 94(1). An article, e.g. a sweetmeat, is wrapped and provided with a suspension thread by enclosing it in a tubular wrapper, inserting a loop of thread into the projecting end portion of the wrapper, folding part of the wrapper into the loop and then closing the end of the wrapper. The thread 5, Figs. 1 and 2, is withdrawn from a reel 4 over guide rollers 7, 10 and held by grippers 6 while a pair of grooved tongs 8, 8<SP>1</SP> are moved in the direction of arrow A and then apart to dispose a loop 9 within the end 3 of a tubular wrapper 2 which has been applied to the article 1. A portion 23 of the wrapper, Fig. 5, is then folded into the loop by a finger 11, Fig. 6, and after retraction of the tongs and severing of the thread from the supply, the end of the wrapper is flattened by laterally-movable members 12, 12<SP>1</SP>. The partially-formed package is then moved to a second station, Fig. 8, where the flattened end 24 of the wrapper is compressed to cylindrical form by members 13, 14 and finally to a third station, Fig. 10, where the cylindrical portion 15 is twisted by rotary jaws 16, 161. The end portions of the loop 9 may be left unconnected or may be secured together by knotting or, as shown, by a seal 20 which is applied by dies 18, 19.
