Abstract
779,246. Adjustable ring gauges. GOULDER & SONS, Ltd., J., and HORNE, J. A. Oct. 25, 1954 [Sept. 8, 1953], No. 24767/53. Class 106 (2). An adjustable ring gauge comprises a bridge 1 constituted by two rigid parallel tubes 8 held in brackets 9, 10 at their ends and on which are supported slide members 2, 3 for the feeler discs 6, 7. The slide member 3 is clamped to the bridge 1 by means of a screw 9A and clamping tongue 10A and the slide 2 is held in position by a rod 12 passing through a laterally movable slide in the slide 2 and clamped thereon by a screw 17, the other end of the rod 12 being screw-threaded and engaging with an internally threaded knob 14 in the bracket 9. The slide members carry locating shoes 4, 5 adjustable in directions 4A, 5A the shoe 4 being clamped by a screw mounted in the slide 2 and the spaced pair of shoes 5 by screws engaging shoe-supporting rods and mounted in a transverse bar secured to the member 3. The shoes 4, 5 are adapted to engage the face of a ring R to be gauged and the adjustments so provided enable the feelers 6, 7 to be positioned to gauge diameter across any desired plane of the ring. The feeler 6 is rotatably mounted on a column 19 fixed to the member 2 so as to be adjustable for wear and the feeler 7 is mounted on the end of a lever arm 23 fixed to the end of a shaft rotatably mounted in a housing 25 and carrying at its upper end a second lever 27 which therefore follows movement of the lever 23 and feeler 7 and which bears against the moving contact 28 of a dial indicator 29 carried on the member 3. A spring 30 urges the feeler 7 towards the feeler 6. The gauge can be used for absolute or comparative measurement of internal or external diameters.
