Abstract

779,240. Packaging flexible and collapsible containers. RADO, L. Aug. 11, 1953 [March 24, 1953 ; April 21, 1953], Nos. 8062/53 and 10936/53. Classes 66 and 94(1). A flexible container made from thermoplastic materials or materials coated, laminated or impregnated with thermoplastic materials, which may or may not be resilient, has its nozzle welded in a side wall substantially near to one narrowed end of the container. As shown in Fig. 2 the container comprises two superposed sheets 1, 1a of the same width united at their edges 2, 2a and the nozzle, also of thermoplastic material, has a flange heatsealed on the inside of the container wall. The container may be divided by a central longitudinal partition into two compartments each provided with a nozzle. In a process for making such containers, a sheet of thermoplastic material 1, Fig. 7, is provided with a series of spaced perforations through each of which the unflanged end of a nozzle 3 is passed. The nozzle flanges 5 are heat-sealed around the periphery of the perforations and the sheet is then sealed along its longitudinal edges 13, 14 to a similar unperforated sheet 12 forming the opposite wall of the container. Alternatively the container may be made from a single sheet of material folded along a longitudinal edge. Thereafter the resulting tubing is filled with the desired fluid contents and the final containers are produced in known manner by heating and pressure tools. Alternatively the individual containers may be filled separately after formation from the continuous tubing.
