Abstract
A composite body is composed of at least two parts, each part comprising molybdenum di-silicide and/or a refractory oxide of a thermal expansion substantially that of the di-silicide, in proportions from all di-silicide to all oxide, the proportions in the two parts being different. Alumina is the preferred oxide. 3 per cent silica or magnesia may be included with the alumina, whilst the di-silicide may contain some copper. Bore holes may be provided as described in Specification 779,128.ALSO:A composite body is composed of at least two parts, each part comprising molybdenum disilicide and/or a refractory oxide of a thermal expansion substantially that of the di-silicide, in proportions from all disilicide to all oxide, the proportions in the two parts being different. Alumina is the preferred oxide. 3 per cent silica or magnesia may be included with the alumina, whilst the disilicide may contain some copper. The parts of the composite body vary in their electrical conductivity according to the amount of disilicide and alumina they contain. Large bodies may be built up and bore holes provided as described in Specification 779,128.
