Abstract

779,014. Pallets for handling loads. REED CORRUGATED CASES, Ltd., [formerly THOMPSON & NORRIS MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd.]. April 25, 1955 [April 27, 1954], No. 12161/54. Class 78 (4). Hollow box-like blocks folded from doublefaced corrugated cardboard or other sheet material form the legs of a pallet or other platform comprising a deck formed of similar sheet material, and are secured to the deck by flange-like portions 18, Fig. 4. In the construction illustrated the legs take into holes in the bottom sheet 2 of two sheets 1, 2 of corrugated cardboard stapled together to form the deck, and the flanges 18 lie between the sheets 1, 2. The holes in the sheet 2 are formed by pressing out triangular tabs 7 which are secured to the outsides of the legs. Reinforcing members 19 comprising a pair of slotted interlocking sheets of corrugated cardboard are inserted within the legs which are secured in position by staples or by an adhesive. Each leg may be folded from a single blank cut and scored as shown in Fig. 2 and with the corrugations running in the direction indicated by the arrows A. The panel 9 forms the bottom of the leg while the panels 14 ... 17 fold within panels 10 ... 13 to form double sides. In an alternative construction. the deck comprises a single sheet of double-faced corrugated cardboard with lateral flanges folded upwardly to form a shallow tray and the legs are secured directly to the underside of the tray by the flanges 18.
