Abstract

778,958. Sponge batter sheeting machines. ALLIED BAKERIES, Ltd. Sept. 16, 1955 [June 17, 1954], No. 17806/54. Class 28(1) Pastry is manufactured by dispensing batter from two or more dispensing containers on to a batter support member, the containers, and member being relatively movable so that the batter discharged from one container may be superimposed, on that discharged from another container or the two lots of batter may be deposited side by side. As shown two batter con-. tamers, 1, 2 are mounted over and extendin transversely across an endless metal conveyer band 3. The lower part of each container is semicylindrical and has an outlet slot 5 with a detachable shutter 6 formed by an arcuate plate carrying a rack segment 7 which engages a pinion 8 mounted on a rotatable shaft 9. A further shutter may be provided which forms a series of slots. The container may have 'two or more slots 5a, Fig. 4, not shown, 'instead of slot 5. A two colour swiss roll may be produced by superimposing two sheets of differently coloured batter. A chequered swiss roll is made by discharging batter strips of one colour from a container with slots 13, Fig. 6, between similar strips of a different colour coming from another container. The slots may be so arranged that the swiss roll shows, in section, a letter of the alphabet in a different colour.
