A container 1, formed from thermoplastic sheet material, has a flat border flange 3 and is closed after filling by a cover of thermoplastic sheet material which is hermetically sealed to the flange and has one edge overlapping the adjacent edge of the flange. The container may be formed, filled and closed by the apparatus described in Specification 778,496.
