Class 129 [Also in Group XXVIII] In an "Espresso" type coffee machine, the cylinders are immersed' within the water heater and are actuated manually or by a steam or pneumatic rain. The cylinder 7 is immersed in the electrically heated boiler, water being' admitted through port 14 when the piston 13 is raised against the tension of a spring 19 either by a hand lever 26 or by a ram 23 working in a cylinder 29 and supplied with fluid under pressure through 'a valve 32. It is stated that the inlet valve 32 and outlet .valve 33 may be operated automatically so that the machine will run either continuously or for a predetermined number of cycles. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the main cylinder 7 has its water inlet port below the bottom dead-centre of the piston, and the port is provided with a non-return valve.
