[Also in Groups XI and XVIII] Apparatus for making beverages comprises a boiler provided with a run off valve and fed with fresh water under pressure through a float controlled valve whose float is within the boiler which latter contains heating means controlled by a pressure-responsive element connected to the boiler and arranged to cut off the heating when the pressure therein exceeds a predetermined value. As shown, boiler 2 has a removable end-plate 3, contains an electric immersion heater 9 and is connected to a pressure sensitive element 18 which controls a mercury switch 22 to cut off the current supply to heater 9 when the pressure in the boiler exceeds a predetermined amount. The flow of fresh cold water to the boiler is controlled by a magnetic valve 6 in the feedpipe controlled by a switch 5 operated by a float 4 in the boiler, a manual valve 17 also being provided in the feed-pipe. A pressuresensitive element 7 in the feed-pipe between. valve 6 and boiler 2 operates a mercury switch 8 to de-energize heater 9 if the water supply pressure drops. A non-return valve 10 between valve 17 and boiler 2 prevents a back flow of water from the boiler if the pressure does drop. Warning lights 14, 15 come on respectively when heater 9 is energized and when magnetic valve 6 is energized. Auxiliary outlets 20, 21 for hot water and steam are provided. A draw-off valve 1 having a plunger 13 operable by a handle 23 is connected to boiler 2 by a passage 12 and throat 11. In operation, boiler 2 is emptied and then a perforated coffee or like container is placed therein after which valves 16 is opened. Specification 771,957, [Group XVIII], is referred to.
