Abstract

777,815. Continuous-casting machines; casting composite articles. DOW CHEMICAL CO. March 16, 1955 [May 19, 1954], No. 7717/55. Class 83 (1). Galvanic-anodes having a core disposed within the consumable part thereof, are made by introducing molten-metal into one end of a continuous-casting mould, feeding a continuous length of metal core into the mould and continuously withdrawing solid - metal which is bonded to the core from the other end of the mould. The melt, magnesium, aluminium or alloys thereof, is fed through pipes 26, 28 directed so that the melt impinges on and tends to clean the steel-core 30, which is fed to the mould by rollers 36. The surface of the melt may be protected by directing SO 2 gas thereon. In a modification, the molten-metal is directed into the mould from one pipe dipping below the surface of the melt in the mould, and in a further modification the melt is directed from a pipe on to the core.above the surface of the melt. The core may be galvanized or aluminized. Specification 777,816, [Group XVIII], is referred to.
