Abstract
777,704. Knitting; straight-bar machines. BOEHRINGER GES., GEB. Oct. 13, 1953 [Oct. 14, 1952], No. 28221/53. Class 74 (2). The friction rod 12 for reinforcing thread guides 49 is driven by a cam 1 rotated by the main shaft, through a first order lever 5, the ratio of the length of the arms of which is variable by means of a lead screw 9 which is stationary, apart from its axial rotation. The lever 5 is slidable on a member rotatable about a pin 6 carried by a slide 7 traversible along guideways 8 by the screw 9 which is carried in stationary bearings 14, 15 and which is co-operatively connected with the mechanism controlling the thread guide stops. That mechanism is controlled either by the main control chain, or by a separate chain or disc running synchronously with the main chain. The nut coacting with spindle 9 may be rotatably mounted on slide 7 in order that the pin 6 may be moved without need for rotation of the spindle. The cam 1 is so profiled as to accelerate the thread guides over the first half of their travel and accelerate them over the second half. Fig. 2 depicts a stocking with reinforcement of varying width, which may be knitted.
