Abstract

776,962. Metallurgical converters. PINTSCH BAMAG AKT.-GES. July 29, 1955, No. 21999/55. Class 72 A metallurgical converter rotatable about its longitudinal axis in a supporting frame and tiltable with the frame about a transverse axis is provided with a circumferential track ring or rings for rotary motion and a plurality of end thrust rollers are arranged externally of the ring or rings to prevent axial movement of the converter. As shown, a converter 1 has a pair of rings 4, 5, held apart by a spacer 6, attached by intermediate pieces 7 to the shell. Two pairs of supporting rollers 8, 9, one of each pair of which may be driven by an electric motor 13, engage the surfaces of the rings and three pairs of bevelled end-thrust rollers 14, 15 engage the bevelled outer edges of the rings and prevent axial movement of the converter. Additional support rollers 27 may also be provided to support the converter when tilted in the backward direction. The endthrust rollers may be mounted on shafts which are pivotable to bring the rollers out of engagement with the rings, thus allowing the converter body to be removed. The converter is preferably used in a slightly tilted position.
