Abstract

775,800. Cooling thermionic valves. TELEFUNKEN GES. May 25, 1955 [June 5, 1954], No. 15070/55. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XIII] In an evaporative cooler the cooled electrode 1, Fig. 1, is provided with a number of cooling channels 7 open at top and bottom but otherwise enclosed and into which circulating cooling liquid is admitted ; the liquid is vapourized in the channels and produces a powerful upward movement of liquid-vapour mixture therein. As shown the electrode is clamped to the top of jacket 10 within which is an inner container 16 for the fluid supplied by inlet 13. The channels are cylindrical bores parallel to the axis of the electrode and the vapour passes away by header 9 outside the container 20 to vapour outlet 12. Metal plates 19 reduce turbulence of water surface 20 under the impact of vapour issuing downwards from the header 9. In a modification the electrode 22, Fig. 4, has a number of tapered ribs 23 closed by an encircling cylinder 24 to form channels 25. The vapour may be taken from the top of the jacket. Fig. 5 (not shown). A complete circulation and levelmaintaining system is described (see Group XIII).
