Abstract
568,804. Straight - tube heat - exchangers. TOD, D. V. July 6, 1943. No. 10936. [Class 64 (iii)] In a heating or cooling unit which comprises pairs of concentric tubes 4, 5 connected at each end to inner and outer tube plates 6, 7 which form header chambers 8, 9 connected by the annular passages between the concentric tubes, the inner tubes opening through the outer tube plates 7 into spaces which communicate with a space around the outer tubes defined by a vessel (not shown) in which the heating or cooling unit is fitted, the tubes are arranged horizontally or in an inclined position in the vessel and the inner tubes 5 open at one end into a chamber 11 formed between one of the outer plates 7 and a cap 10 fitted on. it, the cap having an outflow pipe 12 which communicates with a draw-off connection and with a pipe which returns the liquid being heated or cooled from the cap chamber 11 to the vessel. One or both of the headers may contain a partition such as 16, and inlet and outlet connections 14, 15 for the heating and cooling medium may be provided either both in one header or one in each header.
