Abstract

775,769. Making plated wire and tubing; coiling. INTERNATIONAL KENMORE, Ltd. May 13, 1954, No. 14071/54. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXXVI] An apparatus for treating a coil 101 of metallic material 10 comprises a driven roller 60 for supporting the coil 101 and advancing it through one or more baths, means e.g. a roller 50 adjacent one end of the roller 60 for forming the coil, a pair of driven gripping rollers 32, 33 for forwarding the material through the coil-forming means to the roller 60, and separate means for adjustably regulating the speed of the rollers 32, 33 and of the roller 60. The rollers 32, 33 and a shaft 61 for the roller 60 may be driven from a common power source, but adjustable speed change devices are included in separate gear boxes 38, 65 incorporated in the respective transmissions to the rollers 32, 33 and shaft 61. Wire 10 is taken from a bundle 11 and passed through a die 31 by a drum 30, the rollers 32, 33 forwarding it through a straightening device 40, 41 to the roller 50 which imparts a curvature to the wire due to the relative displacement between roller 50 and rollers 46, 48 on the device 41 (see Fig. 6). The wire is thus formed into a helix 101 which is supported on the roller 60 which extends above a series of baths, e.g. electrolytic cleaning baths (see Group XXXVI). Specification 601,994, [Group XXXVI], is referred to.
