Abstract

775,309. Cask &c. closures. GARTHWAITE, N. Nov. 10, 1955 [Aug. 14,1954], No. 23698/54. Class 125(3). A closure for casks, bottles and other containers has a rubber or like annular sealing member 1 carried by an annular member 2 with a flange 3 and a lip 4 engaging a groove in the member 1, and, axially slidable within member 2, a tubular member 5 on which acts a locking disc 6, downward pressure on member 5 distorting the sealing member to engage beneath the neck 9 of the container, and a spigot 10 passes through the disc 6 and has thereon a sleeve-like pressure relief valve 12 whose annular face 13 is urged by spring 14 against flange 8 of the operating member 5, the inner portion of valve 12 carrying a venting valve 15 having three pairs of sealing lips 16. The members 2 and 5 may be locked against axial movement by relative rotation, tongues 6a on plate 6 engaging grooves 2a or transverse slots in member 2.
