[Also in Groups X, XXVIII and XL (c)] A coupling for connecting at approximately a right-angle a tube 9 to one or more tubes and/or rods 14, 15 comprises an expander member 3 to fit inside the tube 9, clamping members 1, 2 to hold the tubes 14, 15 and a bolt 4 which extends through the members 1, 2 and into the member 3. The bolt 4 exerts a clamping force on the members 1, 2 and the member 3 is expanded to grip the inside of the tube 9 by engagement with a conical surface tapering away from the members 1, 2. As shown, the member 3 is formed with a skirt 11 provided with three symmetrically-located slots 12, one of which engages a spline on the tapered boss 5 formed integrally with the member 1. Screwing up of the bolt 4 causes the boss 5 to force open the skirt 11 so that the latter bites into the wall of the tube 9 and the end of the tube rests at the bottom of an annular groove 18 surrounding the boss.
