Abstract
569,135. Jointing by stamping. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., and BROCK, W. H. J. April 15, 1943, No. 6068. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXVIII] An abutment collar for securing to a pipe or rod, particularly for jointing, comprises a main portion 11 having a, cylindrical surface fitting the tube 15, a skirt portion 12 spaced from the tube, an annular flange 13 on the skirt portion directed towards the tube, and a deep annular groove 19 between the main and skirt portions. The main portion may be reduced for part of its length to provide a shoulder 16. The skirt portion of the collar is deformed by relative axial movement of a die 26 engaging the shoulder 16 and a die 27 having a tapered bore 33, until the surface 17 of the skirt engages the tube and the flange 14 is forced into the tube or into a coincident groove in the tube. The secured collar has a conical face 23 which can form part of a tapered spigot-and-socket joint. The securing of the collar may be effected by the coupling nut and tapered socket of the joint.
