Abstract

773,019. Fluid-actuated valves. SPECIALTIES DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. July 11, 1955 [Aug. 11, 1954], No. 20012/55. Class 135. A fluid pressure operated valve, operated after a time delay from the start of building up the pressure, comprises a body having an inlet chamber 21, an outlet chamber 22 adjacent a horizontal cylinder 25 with a piston 34 for unseating a valve 31 controlling communication through a vertical partition between the chambers, a section 26 beneath the partition for securing the valve to a container 10 for e.g. carbon dioxide, and formed with a passage, part of which is shown at 36, leading from the inlet to a metering tube inserted into the container and a second passage 29 extending from the cylinder 25 to the container via the section 26. Carbon dioxide supplied to the inlet chamber passes at 36 through the metering tube into the container. After a certain time the pressure in the container acts via passage 29 and moves the piston 34 to the left to open the valve against the spring 32 so that carbon dioxide then passes through the outlet chamber. To pass the carbon dioxide to the outlet earlier a stem 54 may be screwed down to open a pilot valve 49 whereby inlet pressure acts on the piston via passage 30 and check valve 55 to open the valve 31. A filter is provided in the passages 30,36.
