Abstract

772,133. Bag-filling machines. CARTER. C. F. Nov. 22, 1955 [Feb. 28, 1955], No, 33427/55. Class 94(1). In a machine for filling porous bags with pulverulent material, each bag B is supported on a base 10 which is raised by an air cylinder 12 to engage the mouth M of the bag with an adjustable stop 16 on a filling spout 13. A rubber sealing member 14 is then inflated to clamp the wall of the bag mouth against a ring 15 surrounding the spout, and plates 20, 21, supported by shafts 30, 31 guided by rollers 32, 33, are then moved inwardly into engagement with the bag by air cylinders 35, 37. The plates are formed with grooves 22 to which vacuum is then applied through conduits 23, 24 controlled by valves. 25, 26 to such air from the bag through its porous walls simultaneously with the opening of a valve controlling the flow of pulverulent material through the spout 13. The sealing member 14 may be arranged externally of the bag mouth to clamp it against the exterior of the spout.
