Abstract

770,307. Two-part couplings. ROLLSROYCE, Ltd. April 29, 1955 [April 30, 1954], No. 12684/54. Class 38 (1). The contacts of a plug (or socket) are carried in a synthetic or natural rubber block 17 held in a metal shell 10 by a nut 20 and a collet 19, which co-operates with a tapered part of the block 17 so that tighting of the nut 20 causes compression of block 17 against a shoulder 21, thus effecting a water-tight seal between the block and the pins 16. The plug is secured to a flange 11 by a nut 12 and locking washer 13, a rubber washer 15 serving as a seal. In another embodiment (Fig. 2), the shell is in two parts 22, 23 bolted together and to a flange 24, the tapered surface of block 30 being corrugated and co-operating with the inner tapered surface of part 23.
