Relates to an adjustable reclining chair of the type in which, Fig. 1, a backrest 30, a seat 28 and a leg rest 36 are relatively movable and swingably mounted on a support 20 and are so interconnected that movement of one member alters the position of the others, e.g. by an occupant leaning back on the chair. According to the invention (a) the inner end of the leg rest is pivoted at 35 to the front of the seat and has a crank arm 40 pivotally connected to the support 20 by a controlling link 44, so that, when the front of the seat rises, the leg rest is extended ; and (b) the front and rear of the seat are pivotally connected to the support by a guiding link 38 and a bracket 32, respectively, and the back rest is pivoted to the bracket 32 and normally rests against an abutment 48 thereon, so that, when the back rest is pivoted rearwardly the bracket 32 is swung about its pivot 34 and the seat is raised to extend the leg rest. The support 20 comprises rear legs 22 carrying the pivoted brackets 32 and fixed brackets 25 to which the front legs 27 are pivoted. Arm rests 50 may be removably secured to the rear legs. The chair is folded by pushing the back rest member 30 forward and by folding under the front legs 27. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3), the linkage is substantially the same but the front legs 62 are S-shaped and are directly pivoted to the rear legs at 66 together with link 80 connecting the front end of seat member 70 to the base, while detachable arm rests 65 are fitted to the top of the front leg members 62. A bar 78 extends across between the front legs 62 to form an abutment for the end section 63 of the rear legs 61. Friction or other locking devices may be fitted to limit the range of adjustment of the chair and to set it in any required position.
