Abstract

769,487. Ironing-boards. TIPPING, W. F. Feb. 1, 1955 [Feb. 1, 1954], No. 2974/54. Class 138 (2). An ironing-board comprises a sleeve board 30 slidably mounted underneath the main board 10 for withdrawal in a direction transversely of the length of the main board. The sleeve board 30 is supported on a pair of legs 31 each of which includes a rod-like portion 38 extending transversely to the main ironing surface, underneath which surface this portion of the leg is pivotally mounted for rotation about its longitudinal axis, which portion is also slidable axially in its pivot mounting so that the sleeve board may be withdrawn outwardly to lie to one side of the main ironing surface and wherein each leg is shaped to have a U-shaped portion 33 or is provided with a U-shaped clamp adapted to fit over the edge of the main ironing surface when the sleeve board legs have been swung about their pivots to the raised position and have then been moved inwardly. Fig. 1 shows the sleeve board 30 in its operative position and Fig. 2 in its storage position underneath the main board 10. The portions 38 of the legs 31 are slidable and rotatable in flanges 18 secured to the underside of the board 10, while the other end 34 of each leg 31 fits slidably into a bush 35 or other bearing on the underside of the sleeve board 30.
