Abstract

769,351. Valves. PRESSUREVAC, Ltd., and BRITISH CECA CO., Ltd. Dec. 21, 1954, No. 36866/54. Class 135. A butterfly valve controlling the flow of fluids in pipes, comprises a valve plate 1, Fig. 2, seatable on a resilient ring 3, Fig. 1, housed in an annular seat 4 and mounted on an operating shaft 5 so that on initial rotation of the shaft the plate is moved axially away from its seat and on further rotation swung into its open position. The shaft 5 carried in bearings 6 passes through bosses 22 secured to the pipe and pivot brackets 9 secured to the plate and is keyed to lifting arms 7. The arms 7 are slotted at 23 to engage bolts 8 which pass through the brackets 9, and brackets 8a fixed to the plate 1. The brackets 9 are formed with key-hole shaped slots, the flat sides 17, Fig. 3, of which engage flats formed on the bosses 22 so that on initial rotation of the shaft with the plate in its closed position, the plate is prevented from rotating until the plate has moved sufficiently away from its seat to disengage the flats from the flat sides 17 and lugs 18 on the face of the plate 1 from a roller 19 mounted on a fixed rod 20. Collars 10 carrying guide sleeves 11 and mounted on the shaft 5 engage plugs 12 fixed to the plate to guide the plate towards and away from its seat. The shaft 5 is rotated by a lever 13 which may be operated by a piston and cylinder arrangement 14, 15 or manually. Specification 652,635 is referred to.
