Abstract
769,114. Handbags. GORDON, H. P. May 3, 1955 [Dec. 9, 1954], No. 35692/54. Class 133. [Also in Groups VII, XV and XVIII] An ornament for the clasp of a handbag comprises a base member, a cap engageable on the base member and a holder for a detachable tablet clamped between the cap and base member, the parts being constructed so that the tablet when fitted is visible through the cap, the cap and base member defining therebetween a socket, the holder being in the form of a slab fitting in the socket and being formed in its face visible through the cap with a recess for accommodating the tablet. As shown in Fig. 1, a base member 1 has a socket 6 over which a transparent cover 3 is secured by a screw cap 2. Within the socket is a slab 4 supported by leaf sprockets 5 sliding in grooves in the base of the slab. The slab has recesses 9 for tablets bearing initials 11. The tablets may slide in slideways in a plate having retaining lugs or flanges or metal L-section retaining members. The slab may be in two parts split along a diameter secured by one or more metal I-shaped members, each part of the slab having a recess or recesses for a tablet or tablets. The slab may be hollowed out for a tablet which is retained therein by a screw plug. Two caps and sockets may be mounted on a common base member.
