Abstract

The invention comprises salts of aliphatic diamines with ethylene-bis-thioglycollic acid or with the condensation product of thioglycollic acid with an unsaturated fatty acid or ester thereof (including glycerides). The salts are made by mixing solutions of the two components, heating, if necessary adding a further liquid to precipitate the salt, filtering and recrystallizing. Examples show the preparation of the hexamethylene diamine salts of ethylene-bis-thioglycollic acid and of 8- or 9-(carboxymethylthio)-stearic acid. Other suitable amines are ethylene diamine and decamethylene diamine. The salts give amides on heating by loss of a mol. of water. The process is stated to be applicable to polyamines also.
