Abstract

768,785. Liquid oxygen vaporizing apparatus. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. April 19, 1955 [April 22, 1954], No. 11284/55. Class 8(2) Apparatus for vaporizing liquified gas, e.g. oxygen and dispensing it at a pressure above that at which the liquid is stored comprises an evaporator 31 supplied with liquid oxygen from a container 10 which is itself automatically supplied with liquid oxygen from a store 52 whenever the pressure in container 10 falls below a predetermined value. In normal operation liquid oxygen from container 10 and at a pressure of between 200 and 400 p.s.i. traverses openings 13 in an outlet nozzle 12, a duct 24 and an inlet 30 of the vaporizing coil 31 from the outlet 33 of which oxygen vapour passes to a pipe 34 and through a control valve 36 which opens automatically at a pressure greater than. 300 p.s.i. and then to a dispensing duct 37, pressure reducing valves 39 and service connections 38. Pressure gains access to the space above the liquid in container 10 through a duct 48, a check valve 47, a pressure limiting valve 46 which closes automatically at 400 p.s.i., a duct 45 and an opening 15 at the container head. The latter has a second opening 16 connected to a duct 40 having a sealing valve 41 closed by pressure in duct 45 when the latter exceeds 200 p.s.i., a hand valve 42 and a vent valve 43 closed by pressure in duct 45 when it exceeds 85 p.s.i. When all the liquid oxygen from container 10 has been gasified the pressure drop closes valve 36 and opens valve 41 and connects container 10 to the store 52 through a check valve 50 and duct 51. On further reduction of pressure, valve 43 opens and vents container 10 to atmosphere, whereupon liquid oxygen flows from store 52 through a check valve 26, a jet 27, the duct 24 and apertures 13 of nozzle 12 to the container 10; direct access of liquid from store 52 to coil 31 being prevented by the aspirating action of the jet 27. Filling is completed when a float 19 is seated at 18.
