Abstract
768,416. Joining pipes to walls. WALDES KOH-I-NOOR, Inc. April 14, 1955, No. 10735/55. Class 99(1) The end of a tube 11 is pushed through an opening in a flexible wall 10 until a flange 12 abuts the wall and a split spring retaining ring 16 is fitted loosely into position on an inclined wall 15 of a groove 13 adjacent the flange 12 and then contracted, the wall 15 forcing the ring 16 to the left to clamp the wall 10 against the flange 12. The groove 13 is formed by a collar 14 on the end of the tube 11, which collar is provided with cut-out portions 23, Fig. 1, enabling a washer 21, positioned between the ring 16 and wall 10 and provided with complementary cut-out portions 22 to be fitted in position. The ring 16 is contracted by a bolt 31 having two oppositely directed thread portions 29, 30, engaging with similarly threaded nuts 24, 25 having pins 26, 27 engaging in bores in the free ends of the split ring 16, rotation of the bolt causing nuts 24, 25 to move together to contract the ring. The bolt 31 is jaurnalled in two wings 33, 34, formed by bent-up portions of the washer 21. In Fig. 4 a tube 11a connecting two cells 10, 10a, of an aircraft fuel tank is provided with flanges 12, 12a at each end and connected to the flexible walls of the cells in the manner described above. Washers 40 are arranged between the flanges 12, 12a, and the cell walls 10, 10a.
