Abstract
766,687. Electromagnets. BERGLUND, N. K. E. June 8, 1954 [June 6, 1953], No. 16867/54. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXVII] In a polarized electromagnetic relay or other device the armature consists of a body 1 rolling on a flat or concave surface at the upper end of a permanent magnet 2 and movable into engagement with one or other of two pole pieces 3, 4 shaped to conform with the shape of the armature in such a manner that only part of the rebounding force acts in the direction of movement of the centre of gravity of the armature. The direction of movement depends on the direction of current in a control coil 9a. The permanent magnet and pole pieces may be provided with suitably insulated contact surfaces thus forming a relay or the armature may be connected so as to operate other mechanism as by a link 18, Fig. 3. The armature may take the form of a sphere or cylinder of equal or different radius from that of the pole pieces or may have the shape of a parabola, hyperbola or part ellipse. It may also be a trapezium 53, Fig. 12a, mounted on rollers 61.
