Class 99(1) In a hose end fitting comprising an outer part 33 gripping the outside of the hose pipe and an inner part 11 screw-threaded into the outer part 33 and provided with an outer insert 18 which is driven axially into the material of the hose and an inner insert 12 which fits tightly into the bore of the hose, the insert 12 is fixed to the inner part 11 so as to be free to rotate relatively thereto to prevent twisting of the end of the hose during screwing together of the parts 11, 33. The insert 12 has a flange 25 engaging in a recess 26 in the member 11 which flange is formed when the tube 12, provided with a groove 27, Fig. 2, forming a weakened portion, is positioned against a step 29 in the member 11 and forced or hammered until the end 28 is deformed into the recess 26. The fitting is shown applied to a hose having inner and outer resilient layers 22, 36 of rubber or plastic and a reinforcing layer 20, e.g. of braided wire, the insert 18 engaging between the inner layer 22 and the reinforcement 20. In applying the fitting the outer member 33, provided with quick-pitch screw-threads 35, is screwed on to the outer surface of the hose, the threads 35 cutting through the outer layer 36 to the reinforcement 20. The member 11 is then screwed into the member 33, whereby the member 12 is forced without rotating into the bore of the hose and the insert 18 is forced between the reinforcement 20 and the inner layer 22. The reinforcement 20 is thus trapped between the teeth 35 and the tongue 18, the end of which is bent inwards slightly by the teeth 35 to cause the inner layer 22 to be gripped between the inserts 12 and 18.
