764,423. Tubular gas heaters. AKT.- GES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. Jan. 17, 1955 [June 29, 1954], No. 1373/55. Class 64(1) A tubular gas heater comprises a radiation chamber 1 lined by heating tubes 7 and 7<SP>1</SP> through which the gas to be heated flows, the tubes being of undulating form and extending between an annular distributer 8 and header 10. The heating tubes form a continuous wall round the radiation chamber and each tube is so placed that one half 13 of an undulation is on one side of an imaginary surface 12 parallel to the walls of the chamber and the other half 14 is on the other side of the surface, the undulations of adjacent tubes being displaced with respect to each other by half the length of an undulation. Combustion gases flow downwards from the top of the chamber transmitting heat by radiation to the tubes 7 and 7<SP>1</SP>, and leave the chamber via the gas duct 6. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the undulations of adjacent tubes are displaced in relation to each other 'by half and quarter the length of an undulation alternately.
