Abstract

356,899. Submarine cables. SIEMENS SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Aug. 7, 1930, No. 23692. Convention date, Aug. 9, 1929. [Class 36.] To reduce cross-talk in a submarine cable of high line attenuation, the pairs of each quad are electrostatically screened from one another. The screens may consist of metallic sheaths applied about each core or pairs of cores or may comprise metal strips which are inserted between the pairs of each quad during stranding. In the construction shown in the Figure, one pair 12 of each quad and the quads themselves are provided with a metallic sheath. In a deep-sea cable having a supporting member for the lead sheath, this member may be of star formation to provide compartments in which the cores or groups of cores are carried. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 5468/81, 15217/93, 14902/98, 22005/05, 222,436, 281,287, 286,676, and 338,359, [all in Class 36, Electricity, Conducting &c.].
