Abstract

763,610. Forging. TURNER BROS. (BIRMINGHAM), Ltd. Oct. 25, 1954 [Oct. 26, 1953], No. 29468/53. Class 83 (4). Mechanism for feeding blanks into a press comprises a slide 17 having a blank receiving pocket 20, movable from an outer position where it receives a blank from a supply station to an inner position adjacent the press die 51 and an ejector 23 mounted on the slide for ejecting the blank into the die. The mechanism is particularly adapted for a press having a tool 49 moving in a horizontal or inclined direction, and the feed slide 17 reciprocates in horizontal guide-ways 13 disposed transversely of the axis of the main tool. The blanks fall down a shoot 22, Fig. 3 (not shown) to the feed slide. The latter is actuated from the main press ram 47 through a rocking lever 36, pivoted at 37 to a yoke 38 pivoted on a stationary pin 39, drag links 35, links 32, triangular plates 28 mounted on a stationary pivot 29, and driving links 26 connected at 25 to the slide. The ejector 23 is actuated by a lever 24 mounted on the pivot 25 and connected by links 33 with the links 32. The latter are biased by a strong spring 43 passing through a hole in a spacing block 44 disposed between the triangular plates and connected to the latter at 46. During the retraction of the ram 47 the slide 17 moves inwardly until it engages a stop 52 whereupon the pivotal movement of the triangular plates 28 is arrested and the links 32 stretch the spring 43 and move the links 33 to actuate the lever 24 and hence the ejector 23. A block 40 adjustable along the rocking lever 36 enables the stroke of the slide 17 to be varied.
