Abstract
763,265. Packaging ice-cream. LYONS & CO., Ltd., J., WHITE, P., and BOWMER, H. L. Jan. 26,1955 [Feb. 10, 1954], No. 3912/54. Class 94(1). A blank of card approximately 0À020 inch thickness is creased to form panels 1 to 4 and marginal strips 5, 6, Fig. 2, and formed into channel section by being pressed into one of a continuous series of channel-shaped supports on an endless conveyer, the base of the channel being formed by the panel 3. The blank is often fed beneath a horizontal extension nozzle whereby it is filled with ice-cream to the depth of the panels 2, 4, after which the panel 1 is folded down and the strips 5, 6 secured together as by adhesive as shown in Fig. 1. The blanks follow closely upon each other with only a gap of about # inch between their ends so that the extrusion of ice-cream may be continuous. After filling, the folded blanks are separated from one another by a knife or wire and then passed through a freezing tunnel. The resulting wrapped blocks of hard-frozen ice-cream are then cut into slices, e.g. along the lines 8, by a saw as described in Specification 733,201. The junction of the strip 6 and panel 4 may be weakened by slits or perforations 7 to facilitate the removal of the wrappers from the slices.
