758,084. Drill bits. DIONISOTTI, J. Sept. 30, 1952, No. 24441/52. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] A rock-drill bit comprises a crown having grooves for receiving cutting inserts, the grooves having walls that converge from one end to the other and the inserts having anchoring portions conforming with the grooves, the inserts being forced into engagement with the grooves by the forces applied during drilling. A drill-crown 1 has inserts 2 secured in conventional manner on its apex, inserts 3 of curved wedge form shaped so that rotation of the drill during cutting tends to tighten the inserts in the grooves, and inserts 4, also of curved wedge form, secured in the outer periphery of the crown. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the inserts 3 and 4 are secured in steps in the crown in dovetail grooves.
