758,024. Making casting electrodes; powder metallurgy. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 8, 1954 [Dec. 18, 1953], No. 35260/53. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A consumable electrode or section thereof for use in the arc melting of high melting-point materials, e.g. titanium, zirconium, molybdenum, thorium, hafnium, tantalum, chromium and their alloys in a crucible, is made by lightly compacting a mass of the material to be melted in sponge, powder or other subdivided form in a die to substantially the shape of the finished electrode and then heating the shaped mass in an inert atmosphere or a vacuum to a temperature of 800-1000‹ C. Titanium powder was pressed in a die under 5-10 tons per square inch and was heated in a vacuum furnace at 850- 950‹ C. for 12 hours.
