Abstract

756,952. Shears &c. WILKINSON SWORD Ltd., [formerly WILKINSON SWORD CO., Ltd.], and RANDOLPH, H. B. Sept. 15, 1953 [Dec. 4, 1952], No. 25236/53. Divided out of 756,928. Class 30. The inner surface of a blade for scissors, shears &c. has a longitudinal groove to receive substance deposited on the blade during cutting, the groove commencing close to, but spaced from, the cutting edge and having a maximum depth which is small compared with the thickness of the blade. As shown, blades 10 have grooves 10a spaced from the cutting edges 10b by lands 10c. The grooves may have the widths indicated at 10a<SP>2</SP> and 10a<SP>1</SP> and if formed by pressing or forging have a curved outline as shown in Fig. 2a. If the grooves are machined a flat base and straight sides as shown in Fig. 3b is more convenient. The invention may be applied to pruning shears of the kind disclosed in Specification 666,802.
