756,928. Shears &c. WILKINSON SWORD CO., Ltd., and RANDOLPH, H. B. Nov. 3, 1953 [Dec. 4, 1952], No. 30769/52. Class 30. [Also in Group XXII] Blades for shears and like tools are made by forging, pressing or stamping so that in cross-section the inner surface of the blade is concave along at least part of its length and the outer surface is convex along the same part, the thickness of the blade being at least five times the maximum depth of the recess in the concave surface. As shown, a blade 10 is forged, pressed or stamped from a blank having flat major surfaces and the outline of the finished blade. The outer surface 10b is convex and the concavity 10a on the inner surface extends from the tip of the blade to a line 10d concentric with the pivot aperture 10c. The portions of the blade surfaces on which the pivot pin bears may be flattened by counterboring. The blade is rendered more rigid by the forging pressing or stamping and the invention may be applied to one or both blades of scissors, secateurs or sheep shears.
