Abstract

A moisture-proof, heat-sealable coating composition for regenerated cellulose film comprises a film-forming agent and a waxy polymer of an n-alkyl ether of vinyl alcohol, where the alkyl group is 12-34 C atoms, e.g. n-octadecyl- or n-cetyl-vinyl ether. The amount of film-former is 35-99.5 per cent and of waxy polymer is 0.5-10 per cent. The film-former is an organic solvent soluble cellulose derivative, e.g. cellulose nitrate or acetate, or ethyl cellulose, or rubber hydrochloride. The composition may also include 0-20 per cent resinous blending agent, e.g. gum dammar, rosin, rosin-modified glyceryl citrate alkyd resin, or ester gum; 0-55 per cent plasticizer, e.g. tricresyl phosphate, dicyclohexyl, or dibutyl, phthalates, or tricyclohexyl citrate; up to 2.5 per cent paraffin wax of melting point 50 DEG C. or above, or microcrystalline wax to improve anti-blocking; and up to 2 per cent silicone oil. Various combinations of the above constituents are exemplified, but, in all examples, the film-former is nitro-cellulose. Specifications 545,523, 593,947, [both in Group VIII], and 664,248 are referred to.ALSO:A moistureproof, heat-sealable coating composition for regenerated cellulose film comprises a film-forming agent and a waxy polymer of an n-alkyl ether of vinyl alcohol, where the alkyl group is 12-34C atoms, e.g. n-octadecyl- or n-cetyl-vinylether. The amount of film-former is 35-99.5 per cent and of waxy polymer is 0.5-10 per cent. The film-former is an organic solvent soluble cellulose derivative, e.g. cellulose nitrate or acetate, or ethyl cellulose, or rubber hydrochloride. The composition may also include: 0-20 per cent resinous blending agent, e.g. gum dammar, rosin, rosin modified glyceryl citrate alkyd resin, or ester gum; 0-55 per cent plasticizer, e.g. tricresyl phosphate, dicyclohexyl, or dibutyl, phthalates, or tricyclohexyl citrate: up to 2.5 per cent paraffin wax of melting point 50 DEG C. or above, or microcrystalline wax to improve anti-blocking; and up to 2 per cent silicone oil. Various combinations of the above constituents are exemplified, but, in all examples, the film-former is nitrocellulose.
