755,390. Transplanting-machines. FERNANDEZ, C. A. Sept. 27, 1954, No. 27825/54. Class 6 (1). In a transplanting machine of the kind comprising a frame 1 supported by an adjustable wheel 7 and a wheel 4 which drives the transplanting mechanism through gearing, a skid 17 extending the full length of the machine is provided for supporting the machine on soft or swampy ground. As shown in Fig. 4, the skid has a flat bottom which at the leading end curves upwardly and the upper surface 17<SP>11</SP> is of substantially helicoidal form. The skid is pivotally mounted on the shaft 3 carrying the wheel 4 by means of a bracket 18 and antifriction bearings. The transplanting mechanism comprises a plurality of tongs or grippers 9 connected to an endless chain 10 which pick up plants from two conveyers 8 and deposit them in a furrow formed by a plough and closed by a wheel 7<SP>1</SP> which together with the wheels 4, 7 are provided with rubber tyres.
