Abstract

753,369. Hydraulic shock-absorbers. GIRLING, Ltd. Feb. 21, 1955 [Feb. 24, 1954], No. 5389/54. Class 108 (3). The recuperation chamber 12 of a telescopic hydraulic shock-absorber comprises a hollow cylinder having an integral end closure 12a and is formed by cold extrusion. The thickness of the walls of the cylinder increase progressively at 27 towards the end 12a. The latter is formed with three angularly-spaced radial ribs 28 to form a seating for a base-valve assembly 14. Instead of the end 12a being part-spherical, as shown, it may be of frusto-conical form (Fig. 1, not shown). The closure (not shown) for the other end of the chamber 12 may be threaded or welded to the latter. According to the Provisional Specification, the chamber 12 may be formed by a drawing operation.
