Abstract

752,149. Fuel injectors. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. June 8, 1954 [July 3, 1953], No. 16777/54. Class 7(3) [Also in Group XXVIII] In a combined fuel-injection pump and injection nozzle, the plunger assembly 39 is loaded by a spring 74 and actuated by a tappet 85. The plunger 92 acts as a lowpressure metering pump which delivers a metered quantity of fuel (see Group XXVIII) through a passage 99 and non- return valve 112 to the injection plunger 106 which has a conical head and operates in a chamber 107 having a conical end face and ejection orifices. 29. The capacity of the injection pump is greater than that of the metering pump so that during the suction stroke of the injection pump, hot gases are drawn through the orifices 29 and mix with the fuel. The fuel is fed under pressure to the passage 86 and flows in a circuit, in parallel with the pumps, through the passage 119 and a cooling chamber 118 for the nozzle; this circuit is controlled by a valve.
