Abstract
752,066. Ammunition projectiles. AKTIEBOLAGET BOFORS. Dec. 13, 1954, No. 35991/54. Class 9(1) A non-explosive projectile for armour penetration comprising a tungsten carbide core 1 in a steel case 2 as in Specification 752,067, has preferably the whole, but at least the front part of the case 2 of a Brinell hardness greater than 350 and the tip of the case is approximately conical with a cone angle of about 45 degrees. A channel 5 through the tip allows the escape of air during assembly of the projectile and also serves as a fracture line for the case on impact, when the core passes through the case. The case has also a reduced thickness 6 near the junction of the nose and the cylindrical body, so that on impact the case ruptures at 6 and the front part rides over the rear part of the case forming. a support for the core during penetration.
