A flexible mat is supported in a framework so as to provide a launching or landing means for vertical lift aircraft. The mat accommodates itself to the craft undersurface and has an open weave to allow free downward passage of the engine efflux. The tension is adjustable and the supporting framework may be movable or fixed above an aircraft carrier flight deck or slung over the ship's side.
