Abstract

2-Methyl-5 : 8-dimethoxy-furanochromone (khellin) is dissolved in water in the presence of at least one bile acid or water-soluble salt thereof to give stable solutions suitable for parenteral use. Specified bile acids include dehydrocholic acid, cholic acid, desoxycholic acid, and taurocholic acid. Alkaline extracts of bile containing these acids may be used. Other substances known to increase the solubility of khellin in water such as salicylic acid, theophylline and p-aminobenzoic acid may be added to the solutions together with stabilizers. In an example 2-methyl-5 : 8-dimethoxy-furanochromone is added to a 10 per cent aqueous solution of sodium dehydrocholate.
