Abstract
749,158. Stencils. JOHNSON, D. M. Sept. 16, 1954 [April 13, 1954], No. 10803/54. Class 100(2). A silk screen for use in printing textile fabrics is roughened on the hitherto smooth lacquercoated fabric-engaging face outside the pattern portion at least at the portion which, when the screen is in one position, overlaps the pattern printed at the preceding position. In one embodiment, the screen, which is already coated with a lacquer such as chlorinated rubber, is provided outside the pattern area with a further coating thereof, and a coating of flint grit sprinkled or sprayed thereover. The lacquer is allowed to dry, excess grit brushed off, and the roughened surface treated with a further coat of the same lacquer. Any suitable adhesive, cement or other lacquer may be used in place of chlorinated rubber, and sand, glass grit or other abrasive granulated material inside of flint grit, or a layer of sand paper or glass paper may be secured to the required portion of the surface. Alternatively, a lacquer or adhesive is applied and mechanically roughened before drying and hardening.
