In a multi-stage compressor an intermediate stage is vented to atmosphere by a valve actuated by the high pressure when it reaches a predetermined value. The high pressure is controlled by a relief valve and passes through an oil and water trap and dehydration to an air storage bottle. Specification 658,118 is referred to.
