Abstract

748,595. Heating by circulation of fluids. PRINKE, B. April 22, 1952 [April 24, 1951], No. 10071/52. Class 64(2). In a district heating system having a source of steam such as a power station or heating station, at least one consumer installation is connected between the flow pipe 2 and return pipe 9 of a closed steam-condensate circuit of the distant source and has at least one steamconsuming device in the form of a counterflow water heater 1 (or steam-generating heatexchanger), e.g. for a space-heating system 22, and the whole of the condensate from the consumer installation passes through a flowlimiting set 6 having nozzles or apertures to produce a pressure difference which acts, e.g. by way of a diaphragm, to limit the maximum steam consumption by the consumer, by controlling a condensate valve 5 at the outlet or a steam valve 51 at the inlet of the device. The control of the valve 5 or 5<SP>1</SP> by the limiting set 6 is performed mechanically, hydraulically, electrically or pneumatically. An installation for each flat of a block of flats, as shown, includes also a steam cooker 21 and a water heater 15 of a hot water supply system both of which feed their condensate, through lines 19, 23 back to the set 6. All the condensate flows from the set 6, through a heat meter 7, back to the central station. It may flow by gravity in open channels. Both the appliances 15, 21 have a relatively small steam consumption compared with that of the space-heating system 22 so that control of the consumption of that system by the set 6 is sufficient to ensure that the prescribed maximum consumption for the whole installation is not exceeded. Up to the maximum permitted consumption there is control from a panel 11 by which the condensate flow through the flow limiting set 6, and thereby the steam consumption, is adjusted. The panel 11 may be at the central station or situated for operation by the consumer but subject to central control by a line 12 from the station. The spaceheating system 22 is controlled by operation of the set 6 or the valve 5 or 5<SP>1</SP> by a thermostat 13 in the flow pipe from the heater 1 or by a thermostat 24 exposed to the air. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the spaceheating system is heated by steam generated in a heat exchanger supplied from the district system and to maintain the pressure of generated steam, a regulator operates the valve 5 or 5<SP>1</SP> or the set 6.
